Procrastination – Another Name For Fear

Procrastination has many faces and all of them are facing in the direction of fear. One of these could be …"waiting until you know everything".

I see it with many people. There is no clear action taken until they have all the information, and they would spend many weeks or even months, ringing around and asking all their contacts, hundreds of questions about setting up their planned project.

If I had waited until I knew everything then there would be no monthly ezine at my site, there would be no terrific resources for you to peruse, I would not have met many of my wonderful clients and colleagues etc. In fact, there would be no Forward Steps Life Coaching because I still do not know everything, and I never will.

To move beyond that and any manifestation of fear, my first step with coaching clients is always about getting clear one vital piece of information, and that is – what do they specifically want to accomplish?

In completing exercises such as the 50 Life Power questions, 3 Top Goals exercise or the Coaching Orientation page (each found at the Forward Steps site), many people respond with only 3 or 4-word answers, and their responses often state what they do NOT want.

That level of input in replying to an important first question will lead to determining a weak next action, for getting what they want. Sample responses to: "What do you want?" might be – I want a house, I want a relationship or I want more money. If I was a genie and gave you what you said you wanted (exactly as you asked it), I could give you a dollhouse, a few fun weeks spent with a nice person, and an extra dollar in your wallet. I’ll then have fulfilled all that you asked.

In turn, the types of actions necessary to get the things you want might then include, moving out of your current home, going to a singles club or getting a second job. Those actions will result in producing a very much watered-down semblance of what you want, however they will not provide a high level of certainty for getting you the things you really want, and in the way that you wanted them. One unclear response leads to another, when moving through the stages of planning a project.

Now repeat the exercise by adding one or two additional descriptors to your "life shopping list". For example, I want to personally own a 4-bedroom home on the beach in Hawaii, I want a 40-year relationship with a loving partner, or I want a reliable, consistent, passive income of US$120,000 for the next 40 years. The actions that you might now suggest as being your next step would change considerably, and have much more power in getting you closer to your actual desires.

Imagine if you added another 10 descriptors, emotions and detailed attributes to each of the things that you say you want. Your next action step would be even clearer to you, and would more confidently move you closer to your dream. The certainty thermometer would rise by hundreds of degrees.

You always get out of anything, what you are willing to put into it. Those who respond to pertinent questions with brief, impromptu replies and then say that they got nothing from doing the exercise, never surprises me. People who have invested something of themselves by thinking a little more, spending more time and providing heart-felt responses usually express enthusiasm about what they got out of completing any questionnaire exercise. That too, is no surprise to me.

If you have felt blocked in taking clearly defined actions toward a goal, and one of the ways that you slow the process further is by gathering more and more information, then perhaps it is time to revisit the most important question: "What do you want?"

If you can get that one crystal clear, detailed to the smallest descriptor, emotion, feeling or attribute, and written down in a one or half page response then the next-step actions that you would need to take, will likely leap off the page at you!

New Authors – Get Thousands For Speaking About Your Book Even If Your a New Author

New authors make the mistake of assuming that they have a great book but no one will pay them thousands for speaking to groups about it. That’s not the case, colleges, church’s, businesses and organizations each have budgets into the tens of thousands. But so many speakers, writers and even experienced experts succumb to the fear that they don’t deserve (because there new) and therefore wont get a large fee.

Being new at anything in the professional world is no reason for you not to charge and expect to receive top pay for your services. I will concede that there is a great deal to learn about the craft and industry of the professional speaking circuit. However looking at the value of being new is the wrong perspective to base your fee from. Instead look at it from the perspective of the industry.

For example the industry asks and pays for speaking, and that’s what you provide. The group or organization knows that there will be a varying degree of performance between providers. Much in the same way that there are differences in carpet cleaning companies, but both new and experienced companies clean your carpet, some better than others. Now if you do a good job you will likely be asked to come back when they have a need and if you don’t perform well than you will never be asked to clean their carpets again. So goes the industry were talking about, it has more to do with performance than experience.

With that being said, move your focus to the fact that almost every group, organization and college has specific money set aside for speakers. Its an industry that has those who want to bring new and interesting guests and topics to their members and those who provide those topics. For example colleges have an average of 16 different departments that have a budget for speakers. Now if you multiply that by the thousands of colleges in the US alone and you can see the huge opportunity.

Just get on the phone and find the person who is responsible for signing up speakers and ask if they have any openings. Let them know what your fee is (start at $2,500) and if they say they only pay $500.00 offer to give them a presentation that you feel is worth $500.00. One more important note is to make sure that you record your presentation, for future use. Top Five Mistakes Sisters Make and How to Avoid Them

Sibling conflicts can affect relationships between children and cause worries to the parents more than we realise. Coaching children to accept each other’s differences and be at peace with them gives them happiness and proves beneficial to the future of a family. Just like brothers, sisters too make mistakes by either being too patronising and caring or by being aloof and uncooperative.

Sisters need to learn to strike a balance in their interaction with their siblings. Here are a few mistakes they make and some tips to avoid them.

Tip 1: Dominating the siblings: Elder sisters usually like to dominate over their younger siblings. This might cause them to lose respect. Everyone dislikes being controlled and shouted at. It is therefore better for the sisters to change to be supportive and friendly instead of being dominating.

Tip 2: Not compromising: Sisters might have differences of opinion, choice and character. This does not mean they should be distanced. A little bit of compromise and tolerance can improve matters with little effort.

Tip 3: Not lending an ear: Listening patiently to what your siblings have to share with you can help build a strong positive relationship. Sisters can encourage their siblings to confide in them more often. Keeping their little secrets and giving useful welcome advice will bring greater co-operation all round.

Tip 4: Not spending time together: Sisters should spend as much time with their siblings as they can. Having common friends can also help. Not hanging out or having sports or entertainment together means siblings miss out the fun, love and support they can offer each other, and they then miss out on the natural bonding that occurs when experiences are shared.

Tip 5: Never eavesdrop: If you are a curious sister and feel that you need to know almost everything about your brother or sister, avoid eavesdropping. It is offensive and you may lose both trust and respect, which can take a long time to rebuild. You can share and encourage your sibling to share in return with you.

By avoiding these mistakes sisters can have a healthy relationship with their siblings. A friendly and supportive relationship between sisters or siblings can result in building self-confidence, trust and love.

Remember, it takes a very small shift in behaviour to get a new, more desirable outcome, which makes it worth the effort and investment.
